But I feel the game was misrepresented as being more than it is, and different to what it is. For people who like that kind of gameplay, there's a good chance they'll enjoy this game because it seems competently made, and it seems there are plenty of good things going for it as a boss rush game. outside the bounds of the arena) and then activates that attack, leading to inescapable damage anywhere within the boss arena. And sometimes he positions himself farther to the side of the screen than you are able to move (i.e. For example, one of the early boss fights, Azikel the god of light, has an attack that does damage to the entire screen on the left or right side of himself, wherever he happens to be when he uses the attack. While I'm sure a big part of my frustration is that I didn't "git gud" yet, there's more to it than that. But there's not enough here to motivate me enough to persevere through the challenging boss fights. If there was more to the game, I probably would have stuck it out and finished it. In other words, I found the game to be the worst parts of souls-likes-exhausting and frustrating-without any of the better parts to make it worth it. Maybe Eldest Souls does have boss fights that are as good as Dark Souls games. You just walk for a minute or two through the empty landscape until you encounter the next boss. There is no real exploration that I've seen. This is simply one boss fight after another with no other encounters in between. Full Disclosure: I won this game in a giveaway/raffle.ĭespite being called one multiple times in the description and the quotes from various reviewers, this game is NOT A SOULS-LIKE.
